26.11.2016 – 12.03.2017
The Italo-Swiss artist Patrick Lo Giudice shows recent works in the print room of the Museum Franz Gertsch.
The works of the Italo-Swiss artist Patrick Lo Giudice are highly memorable. Enclosed in deep heavy iron frames, the viewer’s glance is immersed in the thick layers of wax, in and beneath which the pictorial representation unfolds. Working from photographs, Lo Giudice employs an elaborate transfer process to construct his encaustic paintings, in which coloured pigments are added to the numerous layers of heated wax. Series devoted to various themes are produced in this way. His recent works, which will be shown in the print room of the Museum Franz Gertsch, primarily deal with the view of the landscape.
Patrick Lo Giudice, born 1959 in Zurich, was interested in art from an early age but first trained to become a dental technician. He continued with his artistic activities parallel to his professional occupation, producing the first of the encaustic paintings for which he is best known today in 1996. Patrick Lo Giudice, who lives and works in Zurich and Niederurnen, has been exhibiting his artworks since 2002.
The exhibition has been curated by Anna Wesle and Mathias Kobel in cooperation with the artist.
The exhibition catalogue is published by modo Verlag.
