On Show

23.09.2023 – 03.03.2024

From 23 September 2023 to 3 March 2024, wonderful paintings and woodcuts from the museum's collection will be on display, as well as a special loan: we are delighted to be showing the artist's unique "Self-Portrait" from 1980 again.

On 21.12.2022 the artist our museum is named after died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 92. For over twenty years, Franz Gertsch enriched us with his personality, his works, and his ideas for exhibitions. After the paintings “Meer II (Sea II)”, “Cima del Mar”, and “Schwarzwasser” in 2021 and 2022, his creative energy gradually expired.

For the past twelve months “Meer II (Sea II)” (2021/22) was on display in the museum together with the artist’s last woodcut “Meer (Sea)” (2020/21). The public must practise patience until we can enjoy Franz Gertsch’s last two completed paintings which are to remain in his studio during the first year of mourning. We hope to present them in the spring of 2024.

The current exhibition period includes paintings and woodcuts from the museum’s collection as well as a special loan: We are happy to announce the return of the artist’s unique “Selbstbildnis (self-portrait)” from 1980. Visitors can also look forward to “Johanna I” (1983/84), “Silvia I” (1998), grasses and butterbur paintings, the four-seasons paintings, and an array of landscape woodcuts from 1995 to 2017.
