franz gertsch – works from the collection (willy michel foundation)

During the summermonths, we will again present works fromthe museum‘s franz gertsch collection in ourspacious exhibition rooms. Along with sixlarge scale paintings ("Gräser I-IV", "Johanna I" and "Silvia I") almost the entire work of woodcutsfrom 1987 to the present will be on display;this includes the "Natascha" and "Dominique" portraits, the "Schwarzwasser"-woodcuts, and themost recent major work "Maria", which has onlybeen exhibited once up till now.Within this exhibition, the presentation of thecomplete ensemble "Das Grosse Gras" is a very special attraction: four monumental woodcuttriptychs, each of which measures 400 x 850 cm,in a colour cycle of turquoise, ultramarine, vermilion and dark blue which forms a solemnand sacred ensemble, the density and intensityof which can be experienced but rarely in anexhibition space.
