Watercolors and drawings

01.10.2011 – 04.03.2012

In the Cabinet, Anna Lea Hucht (born 1980) presents watercolors and drawings from the past five years to her most recent works. This is the first exhibition of her art in Switzerland.

Her drawn and painted oeuvre ranges from elaborately worked out watercolors and charcoal drawings to the recent quick pencil or charcoal sketches. Anna Lea Hucht creates fictitious interiors and their inhabitants from her own imagination, her still lifes are inspired by pictures of objects she finds in publications from past decades or by her own photographs. The protagonists are captured carrying out puzzling actions or shown in everyday poses in these detailed and lovingly furnished spaces. Her seemingly objective but also occasionally poetical picture titles offer food for thought to the viewer who immerses himself in the artist’s fascinating and distinctive pictorial worlds.

Hucht studied at the State Fine Arts Academy Karlsruhe and has been awarded the Horst Janssen Graphic Prize (2008) and the HAP Grieshaber Prize (2011), among other. She lives and works in Karlsruhe.

The exhibition was curated by Anna Wesle in collaboration with the artist.
